“The Archives of the Cardinal” is a fiction series based on real events. The series tells the story of lawyer Ramón Sarmiento (Benjamín Vicuña) and social worker Laura Pedregal (Daniela Ramírez), both employees of the Vicariate of Solidarity, an organism founded by cardinal Silva Henríquez which mission was to advise the victim’s families in the defense of human rights during the Chilean military dictatorship, between 1973 and 1990. The task of social workers in this institution was to receive politically persecuted persons and their relatives, especially those of missing detainees.
Subsequently, the lawyers had to take legal action, such as writ of protection, which was intended to protect people.
The series starts with Ramón Sarmiento, a lawyer and member of a high-class family that had suffered the expropriation of lands during the Agrarian Reform under the administration of Eduardo Frei Montalva. While investigating the appearance of bones in a farm close to his, Sarmiento meets Laura Pedregal, who works in the Vicariate with her father, Carlos Pedregal (Alejandro Trejo). Together, they start getting into the stories of the persecuted by the dictatorship’s security agents, like the National Information Center, directed by vicar Cristián (Francisco Melo), role inspired on the story of priest Cristián Precht.
